About this compound

Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is a naturally occurring 28-amino acid peptide originally isolated from thymosin fraction 5 of the thymus gland. It plays a central role in the maturation and differentiation of T-lymphocytes and is recognized as a key modulator of innate and adaptive immune function. Tα1 activates dendritic cells, natural killer cells, and T-helper cells through Toll-like receptor signaling pathways. Preclinical and clinical research has examined its immunomodulatory and antiviral properties across a range of infectious disease and oncology models. It is commercially approved in over 35 countries under the name Zadaxin for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and as a vaccine adjuvant.

Storage and handling

Lyophilized storage

Store at -20°C lyophilized, away from moisture and UV light. Keep vials sealed until use. Stable for 2+ years in a non-frost-free freezer.

  • Rodent immune challenge models demonstrated that Thymosin Alpha-1 administration enhanced T-lymphocyte proliferation, increased IL-2 and IFN-γ secretion, and improved clearance of experimentally induced viral infections compared to vehicle controls (Garaci et al., 2000)
  • Murine tumor models showed Tα1 augmented natural killer cell cytotoxicity and dendritic cell maturation, resulting in improved tumor antigen presentation and delayed tumor growth in immunocompromised cohorts (Romani et al., 2004)
  • Clinical and preclinical investigations of Tα1 in hepatitis B and C models demonstrated enhanced viral-specific T-cell responses, reduced viral load markers, and improved seroconversion rates when used as a monotherapy or in combination with antiviral agents (Andreone et al., 2001)
